On our first grade report card, you will notice that your child's reading level is recorded. This document explains the reading levels.
This is the rubric that is used to score writing in the first grade. The standard increases as we progress through the year.
- For the first nine weeks, students are expected to earn a "3" in most areas.
- For the 2nd and 3rd nine weeks, students are expected to earn a "4" in most areas.
- For the 4th nine weeks, students are expected to earn a "5" in most areas.
We formally assess the students in reading and writing at the beginning of the year, mid-year and the end of the year. Informal assessments are ongoing throughout the year. This document explains the different parts of the formal assessment. The beginning of the year results will be discussed during parent conferences in October. The results for the mid-year and end of year assessments will be sent home in the daily folder.
