Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome!

My name is Sarah Yeppez and 2018-19 will be my nineteenth year as a teacher. The time has flown by. It is hard to believe that I graduated from the University of Houston 18 years ago in 2000 with my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston.

When I graduated, I started teaching at Conley Elementary in Aldine ISD. I taught second grade in a self-contained classroom for two years. In 2002, I followed my teaching mentor to Post Elementary. I have taught first grade in both self-contained and departmentalized classrooms. This fall, I will begin my 17th year as a first grade teacher and 19th year overall. The community of Post Elementary has become my second family.

My career has been an amazing journey. Some of the highlights include being named Spotlight Teacher in 2006 (campus teacher of the year), serving as the campus technology liaison, creating and delivering staff development at the campus and district level and out-of-district, supervising three student teachers, mentoring new teachers and serving in a variety of campus leadership positions.

I've taken extensive staff development in the areas of literacy and technology. I find that I enjoy teaching teachers as much as I enjoy teaching students. For quite a few years, I thought about what my next step would be. When I discovered that my district was going to participate in an online library science cohort with the University of Houston Clear Lake, I knew the time was right. I started the program in the summer of 2017 and I will graduate in December 2018.

I look forward to becoming a school librarian but my focus for 2018-19 will be on my first grade students. I cannot wait to share my love of reading, writing and technology with the students. My priority is to help build a sense of community and a love of learning. I look forward to the opportunities that await!
