7th Graders are able to have up to two electives in their schedule. The image below shows which electives are offered at Dean for the 2025-2026 school year.
Once an elective has been selected, the likelihood of it being changed is very low. This is due to seat counts and teacher availability.
Some electives are for high school credit so we highly encourage our students to take them when they have the opportunity.
These classes are to support students in closing their academic gaps. Having one of these classes takes the place of one or both electives on their schedule.

Here are some things your student can do in 7th grade to prepare them for 8th grade:
Try classes that sound interesting
Take a high school credit class (the sooner the better!)
Work hard in their core classes (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) to make the grades needed to qualify for K-level classes.
The 2025-2026 Course Selection process will begin later this school year! Students will be given their course selection sheets at a later date (TBA). This is the only way to document the elective courses your student is interested in taking in 8th grade. Failure to return this form will result in their electives being selected for them. If you have any questions, you can contact the current 7th grade counselor, Mrs. Gilliam t'keyah.gilliam@cfisd.net
If your child was absent or did not receive the form, they can pick one up in the Counselor's Office.
