German 3
The German 3 course includes a comprehensive review of the German language and an in depth study of the German culture (in both German and English). The course emphasis is on continued practice and development of German writing, speaking, listening, and reading skills.
The course competencies focus on: explanations and correct use of the principles of German syntax and intermediate level vocabulary, reading and analysis of selected classical and contemporary German literature, German legends and fairytales, and preparation of written discourse in German. Culture and Language topics we are going to study include: Home and Family Life, Professions and Work, Fashion, Youth Culture, Foods, Healthy Living, the Environment, the European Union, Immigration, Stereotypes and Prejudice, and Travel and Leisure Time.
In addition to the Deutsch Aktuell 2 and 3 textbook, we will be using a variety of German resources such as German news media, magazines, journals, brochures, audio and video cassettes, and the Internet.
Students will prepare written discourse in German, including journaling and script writing, in addition to grammatically more complex translation of English texts into German and vice versa.
Course grading:
