Do you have to have any previous musical training?
No! All students will receive musical training throughout their time in the AMS Raven Band. No previous experience is necessary to be in band.
Can my student participate in activities such as athletics, pre-atheltics, or clubs?
YES! Many of our students participate in athletics, Science Olympiad, Model UN, school clubs, off-campus P.E., and much more!
Can my student be in multiple fine arts activites or electives?
YES! During their 6th grade year, students will only have 1 elective. After 6th grade and throughout high school, students will receive additional elective choices.
Are there any outside rehearsals required? What about concerts?
Yes! During your student's 6th grade year, there will be a few after school rehearsals for their Winter/Spring concert.
When students enter 7th/8th grade, the advanced bands will meet one time a week for after school rehearsals.
Will my student be required to practice at home?
Yes! 6th grade students will be required to fill out a weekly practice report for a grade.
Students will also have weekly playing grades or assignments.
Are private lessons available? Are they required?
Yes, private lessons are offered but they are not required! We encourage students to enroll in private lessons if they are able to. Private lessons offer one-on-one instruction with a certified CFISD private lesson teacher. Lessons start at $22 per 30 minutes. What are the required materials?
Students will be provided a band binder at the beginning of the school year. Students will be required to bring their instrument, band binder, and a pencil to class each day.

NOTE: Do not buy anything until your child has gone through the instrument selection process. We will provide you with the supply list and information to our local music store.
What are the costs or fees?
The supplies that you will need depend on which instrument your student selects. Some instruments are provided from the school, while most instruments and supplies will be ordered from our local music store. Basic instrument supplies include reeds, mouthpieces, valve oil, swabs, and more. Supply lists will be provided when your child goes through the instrument selection process.
How do I purchase an instrument? Do I rent or buy an instrument?
There are certain instruments that CFISD provides such as oboes, bassoons, french horns, euphoniums, and tubas.
Flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and percussion will need to provided by the parents. The majority of parents choose renting-to-own. More information will be provided on where to rent or purchase instruments when your child goes through the instrument selection process.
Are there school-owned instruments?
Yes! CFISD does provide instruments for our oboe, bassoon, french horn, euphonium, and tuba students all the way through 12th grade! We also have a limited amount of instruments that we provide for students that qualify for free and reduced status.
For the district provided instruments, there are still supplies that will need to be purchased.
How often do classes meet?
Each beginner class meets 5 days a week for 55 minutes. Beginner students will be in instrument specific classes.
When students enter 7th/8th grade, they will be enrolled in advanced band with all instruments. These classes meet 5 days a week for 55 minutes. There will also be a once a week section rehearsal for 40 minutes after school.
How are parents involved in the program?
Parents are encouraged to attend every performance to see our amazing Raven Musicians!
When we have social events or travel, our awesome parents volunteer to chaperone. If you are interested in chaperoning, more information will be given at a later date.
