Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District sent an update in Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District about:
Important Attendance Information
Please see this reminder about attendance.
Dear Families,
Thank you for trusting CFBISD with your student's learning this school year. Whether they are walking into our buildings or learning remotely, we strive to provide them with the best instruction and opportunities to learn.
For your student to receive the best learning opportunity, both Traditional Onsite and Remote Learners must stay engaged throughout the entire school day.
Class Time Requirements
Teachers are using in-class discussions, virtual meetings, combined traditional and remote learner seminars, small group tutoring sessions, and individualized support times to provide diverse learning opportunities throughout the day. Both in-person and virtual learning are equally important in CFBISD. We want our parents to be informed when their student misses a chance to interact with their teacher, both in Traditional Onsite and through Remote Learning. We strive for them to be successful, no matter the delivery of learning.
Access to Classes
Although we believe live interaction with a teacher offers the best learning environment, we know that logging in at a specific class time for live teacher instruction is not always possible. Under the CFBISD Return to School practices, any student can access the curriculum in the following ways:
Canvas or SeeSaw
Communication with a teacher
Submit assignments outside of the regularly scheduled class time up to 11:59 PM on a given school day.
Attendance Details
Our wish is for all students to have the opportunity to engage with their teachers as often as possible. Teachers are required to keep daily attendance as either Present or Absent during the scheduled class time.
If your student cannot engage with the teacher during that class time, they will be marked as Absent. When your student is marked as Absent, you will be notified through a ParentSquare message showing your student's missed opportunity to interact with a teacher in a live setting during the school day.
Changing Absence Status
A teacher can change the attendance record for a student marked as absent from Remote or Traditional Learning. An absence can be changed to RA-Remote Asynchronous Present if a student is seen making progress in the curriculum (via Canvas or SeeSaw), discussing their progress with their teacher or submitting work for that day. Teachers review the records the following day and update attendance to reflect that the student was eventually able to engage in one of the three methods.
ParentSquare Messages
We encourage parents to monitor the absence messages you receive through ParentSquare. Please encourage your student to engage with their teachers in the live setting offered each day. You can also review attendance in Parent Self Serve to see that Absent codes are appropriately updated the following day.
CFBISD is committed to offering the best instruction and opportunities to learn for all students. Live settings provide the best learning environment, and we want your students to experience the best.
Questions or Concerns?
If you have questions or concerns about your child's attendance, please contact your student's campus attendance clerk.
