Season finale!! Let's check on the status of our Tower Garden to see how it is doing. We found out earlier this semester that we will be able to keep our second Tower Garden at Rainwater for another semester, so we will be able to continue our observations in the fall!
Oh no! Our Tower Garden has a predator! Cabbage Loopers are eating their fill!
Did you know that we eat plants?! In this video, Mrs. McClain shows us the parts of the plants in the Garden Tower, and the parts of the plants that we can eat! Yum!!

Tower Garden update! Mrs. McClain planted some pea plants so we could observe special adaptations of plant called tendrils! Did you know that pea plants are “climbing” plants?
They have a special kind of stem called a tendril. Tendrils help the pea plant “climb” up or out to get more sunlight. Tendrils need something to latch and hold onto to grow and climb.
The tendrils on the pea plants in the Tower Garden started to grab other plants and harm them as they tried to grow… this was a problem!
Take a look at how Mrs. McClain approached the tendril problem by getting creative and engineering a grow cage!
Our plants have started to grow, so now we can compare the height and the leaf length of each plant in our Tower Garden and vertical garden! What is your prediction?
Don't forget to follow along in your observation journal!
Check out an update on the Tower Garden, along with the release of lady beetles!
More seedling transfers! This time Mrs. McClain is transferring the seedlings into the more traditional vertical garden. Remember to record your observations in your Observation Journal, page 3!
Mrs. McClain was busy transferring seedlings over the weekend! Watch the video to see her transfer into the Garden Tower. Don't forget to follow along in your Observation Journal on page 3!
Were you wondering about all the parts and functions of the Tower Garden? In this video Mrs. McClain explains all about how it works!
Uh oh! Sometimes accidents happen, even with the best intentions. Mrs. McClain's dog, Chalky, was really curious about the plants. He decided he wanted to use all of his senses to explore...including taste!
Check out a 48 hour time lapse of our seeds sprouting!
Take a close up look at our lettuce from seed to seedling! What do you think the function (job) of those little hairs are?!?
What are some things that seeds and plants need in order to grow and thrive? Make a list and then check out this video to see if you are correct!
Check out this video from Mrs. McClain! She is sharing the results of our seed voting and giving more information to introduce the challenge!
Introducing....our at home Tower Garden! Thank you to the Dallas Arboretum and Mrs. O (3rd grade science) for getting this for us to use this semester!
