Section 3- Example Questions
For each possible Section 3 Questions in the Exam, there will be 3 parts you must answer.
In your response, you must also clearly indicate the question and the part you are answering throughout Section 3.
Example 1
Question 1
(a) With reference to contextual factors that have influenced your research/investigation artist(s), discuss in detail how time and place have shaped their art practice.
(b) Discuss how your research/investigation artist(s) has used media or materials or techniques to purposefully construct and communicate meaning. Refer to two artworks in your response.
(c) Evaluate the effectiveness of your research/investigation artist(s) artwork in communicating a persuasive idea or issue. Support your opinion with specific examples from their artwork.
OR
Question 2
(a) Discuss in detail, how contextual factors have shaped your research/investigation artist(s) response to a theme or point of view.
(b) Discuss how your research/investigation artist(s) use of materials or style or technique has challenged attitudes, beliefs or values. Refer to
two artworks in your response.
(c) Prepare a personal response evaluating how your research/investigation artist(s) artwork prompts the audience to consider a different point of view. Support your opinion with specific examples from their artwork.

Question 1
(a) Discuss in detail, the contextual factors that have influenced the choice of theme(s) by your research/investigation artist(s).
(b) Using art terminology, discuss how the contextual factors have influenced commentary and the use of style or technique/s or media or materials by your research/investigation artist(s).
(c) With reference to two artworks, discuss how your research/investigation artist(s) has conveyed meaning and perspective.
OR
Question 2
(a) Discuss in detail, the contextual factors that have influenced the choice of theme(s) by your research/investigation artist(s).
(b) Using art terminology, discuss how the contextual factors have influenced the points of view through the use of style or technique/s or media or materials by your research/investigation artist(s).
(c) With reference to two artworks, discuss how your research/investigation artist(s) has challenged attitudes and values of the audience.
Section 3- Revision
Do your Exam Backwards!
Start with Section 3 - it's worth the most marks.
This keeps your Investigation Artist information fresh in your head.
Know your artist well - their background (historical context) and their intent and meaning behind their series of works (social, cultural, political contexts in the work).

If the question does not have a prompt this can generally be easier as you don't have to keep referring to the artwork/quote. Read the questions and decide which best fits for your artist.
Structure your exam clearly into Part A, B and C. UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE.
