Proficiency in spelling supports reading, although good readers can decode more words than they can spell. Spelling also enhances writing as students can use a wider vocabulary and devote their cognitive resources to communicate ideas and write more. Unfortunately, there is a poor community perception of poor spellers. Even though everyone uses iPads, often the Spellcheck miscorrects words - definitely/defiantly. For these reasons, it is valuable to continue teaching spelling to students who are not at a sound level of spelling mastery.
Each week spelling lists from Level 1-6 are distributed. Students have been assigned a colour. Students may practise their lists using Spelling City.
Results from the South Australian Spelling Test suggest approximate starting points on the Phonic Sight Word Sequence Program for students who have not been tested using the Phonics Placement Test.
The lists are developed from the PLD Phonic & Sight Word Sequence developed by Diana Rigg.
Students are able to practise their Spelling Words using the Spelling City App or website. Search for "Kilian Buffier" under "teacher".
