These students will attend Literacy Classes during Languages. They will be assigned a PLD Phonic Spelling Stage and will have access to a list of 10 colour coded words each week. These students will be given time to learn their words during Literacy classes. LIW1 students will be encouraged to read using Readtheory and will receive 1-1 fluency practice sessions with the educational assistants. They will also complete comprehension activities in these sessions.
These students will be offered programmes under the direction of their English teacher. They will be assigned a PLD Spelling Stage and will have access to a list of 10 words each week. LIW2 students will receive 1-1 fluency practice sessions with the educational assistants. Some students need only to improve their reading comprehension and will complete comprehension Rapid Readers under the direction of an education assistance.
The purpose of the intervention in the Zone is to improve the Literacy skills of students who have been identified as have Literacy difficulties in the past and are no longer receiving support through Languages Withdrawal. Before/AFter school sessions are no more than ten minutes and are offered usually before school on Tuesday and Thursday after school. Students receive intervention in the areas of spelling, fluency, comprehension and writing. Some students are invited to one Literacy lesson in 3.5 within their timetable.
