All Iona Senior School students (Year 8-12) receive an Apple MacBook Air to support their learning journey.
We are very excited to see the amazing things you will produce with this computer.
This is your MacBook. We know that it is the best laptop for creativity, research and productivity.
Used correctly, it will greatly enhance your learning outcomes.
Please follow the tips and procedures below to get the most from the laptop.
Your MacBook must stay in the case provided.
Please personalise this case with stickers and make it your own. But never remove the case from the laptop.
If your case breaks, we will replace it for you for free. But please: do not take the case off the laptop.
Please make sure that you keep your charger and USBC cable at home. You must arrive at school each morning with your laptop fully charged.
If you forget to charge your laptop there is a charging station in the Solais. You can borrow a charger from the Solais after 2pm, if you remain in the library to study.
Try to avoid touching the screen on your laptop.
And never pick the laptop up with the screen between your finger and thumb!
When closing your laptop, ensure that there are no objects (like staples) on the keyboard or trackpad.
Accidents happen! Please report all damage to the ICT Helpdesk in the Solais.
The laptops are insured against accidental damage, and each claim made is subject to a $200 excess payment.
You are responsible for your laptop.
Your daughter’s access to the Internet is filtered and monitored whilst on campus.
Your home Internet connection may or may not have content filtering enabled. It is the parent’s responsibility to filter internet content at home.
Education and supervision are the key to keeping children safe online. Every year the school runs information sessions for students that provide them with useful advice on Internet safety. As a parent you can learn more about this by visiting the information Parents on the Office of the eSafety Commissioner website on: esafety.gov.au/parents.
Your daughter has been given full admin access to the MacBook allowing for the installation of additional software. However, the safest software to download can be found in the Self-Service app on your computer. We highly recommend not downloading software from the internet as it may contain viruses and malware.
All students have access to the Office 365 suite of applications including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, One Drive, Sway and Forms. To access and download these applications, go to www.office.com and sign in using your CEWA email and password.
All students have access to the Adobe Suite of applications including: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Acrobat Pro, After Effects, etc. To access and download these applications, go to https://creativecloud.com/apps and sign in using your CEWA email and password.
In the event there is damage to the MacBook, charger, or STM cover, please report it to the ICT Help Desk immediately. The broken device or accessory will be assessed by a Service Support Officer and a decision will be made as to the process of getting it fixed. In the event of theft, a Police report will need to be presented.
You child’s MacBook is covered by the College’s insurance policy and AppleCare+. Any loss or damage to the MacBook is to be reported to the ICT Help Desk. All insurance claims incur the payment of $200 excess and will be billed to the parent’s account after the claim process is completed. Only two insurance claims are permitted within the three year leasing period.
Your MacBook comes with a three-year extended warranty which protects you against defects in materials or workmanship. If a warranty claim is needed, your MacBook will be sent in for repairs and you will not be charged. The ICT support staff will assist with the process.
All students are bound by the Iona Student Technology User Agreement and the ICT Student Fair Use Procedure. Policies and Procedures can be accessed through the Student/Parent Portal.
