Identify Type of Programming in place for the student:
Accommodations: Same learning, outcomes and assessment - just a different way to access (Different process).
Adapted: On an Alberta Program of Studies - but working on a different grade level, or the subject content is being adapted.
Math grade 8 class but may be working on math grade 3 outcomes.
Social Studies 8 - adapt the content to a grade 3 level but still the same topic.
Modified: NOT on an Alberta Program of Studies - functional life skills. A student with this level of reporting would NOT be on PowerTeacher. Another reporting tool would be used to share learning progress.
Communicating Support for Diverse Learners in PowerTeacher
It is important to clearly communicate the type of programming in place for the student to all stakeholders (parents/guardians/future teachers).
Considerations:
If a student requires the same accommodations or adaptations ALL of the time in a given subject - document the supports in the SUBJECT comments to save you from having to comment for every assignment. If your student only requires accommodations or adaptations for SOME assignments, document supports in the ASSIGNMENT comment.
If your student is on an IPP or LSP, an additional comment of “Please see IPP/LSP for full progress support and support in place for your child.” May also be added, either with the subject comment or on assignments.
If a child is NOT on LSP and requires frequent support, consider the implementation of one. Discuss the matter with your Student Services LST member at your school.
