During writing, students are engaged in organizing and conveying ideas in draft form, while continuing to edit, develop and revise their ideas. Student writing may or may not be fully developed and published.

Students are given time to write every day
Building writing stamina over time
Conferencing or collaborative writing – with teacher or peers
Feedback while writing is in process – connected to rubric or criteria outlined
Editing and revising while writing is in process including reordering sentences and chunks of text
Pausing during writing and reading text out loud – whole class, small group, author’s chair
