The foundation of DAP is created within relationships. As educators and caregivers, we walk alongside our youngest learners as they each navigate their own unique path in life. Not only do our earliest relationships form a blueprint for brain development, but they also teach children what to expect from the world and their future relationships. Let’s talk about the power of a child’s earliest relationships! Together, we’ll notice how engaging in supportive and responsive interactions, offering consistent and trusting environments, and providing high-quality learning experiences become tools that imprint well-worn pathways for strong brain development.

How can we ensure every child sees themselves reflected in their literacy journey? Join the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to explore how developmentally appropriate practices can support young multilingual learners’ sense of identity, resilience, and the nine science-based early literacy components outlined in the 2023 Wisconsin Act 20. We will also dive into practical ways to partner with families to identify and honor learners’ diverse cultural and linguistic assets, making early literacy experiences in childcare and formal school experiences even more meaningful, inclusive, and impactful. This session is designed for educators, caregivers, and community partners committed to centering the child and fostering literacy environments where all children can thrive.

Designed for educators who want to inspire scientific curiosity in young children. This session will explore foundational beliefs about scientific inquiry, essential materials to keep on hand, and how to source free or recycled items. Emphasizing developmentally appropriate practices, we'll focus on open-ended, child-directed activities that prioritize exploration and discovery over finding the "right" answers as we study light & shadow, colors & mixing, and magnets & magnetism. Participants will leave with practical strategies to foster pure engagement and scientific inquiry in their classrooms.

Children come to school in many different mind-body states. From happy to anxious to frustrated, and everything in between. Through their behavior, they are asking us, "Am I safe? Am I loved and valued in this space?" When we take the time to establish a felt sense of safety and genuine connection with attuned loving adults we can regulate their nervous systems so they can answer "Yes" to these questions. Let us walk you through a Brain Smart Start which includes the 4 components that are specifically designed to balance and integrate brain and body function for both teachers and students. This calm state is the only state from which learning and application of executive functioning skills can take place.

This training will provide educators with an opportunity to explore their own abilities and comfort with math concepts as well as consider how the activities, interactions, and materials provided in an early childhood learning environment allows for children to develop their mathematical thinking skills. Utilizing children’s natural curiosity, within their everyday play, educators will learn how to support and strengthen a child’s interest and development around math concepts. This engaging, hands on training will provide time for educators to better understand how to put the WMELS mathematical thinking developmental expectations into action.
