THERE ARE A LOT OF BIRDS IN THE STORM WATER POND DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE SCHOOL. HAS THE IMPACT ON THE WILD LIFE BEEN CONSIDERED GIVEN THE PROXIMITY OF THE SCHOOL?
Urban wildlife, including the waterfowl and other birds that inhabit this pond, are impacted by disturbances from humans like noise from traffic, lawnmowing, etc. and amenities like playgrounds, schools, trails and lighting. To minimize impacts, the school construction will be required to abide by the provincial Wildlife Act and the federal Migratory Birds Convention Act. This includes conducting pre-construction nesting bird surveys to ensure that no nests or birds are destroyed or disturbed by construction.
