Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord (CSCN) has been given the Florian Park site located immediately west of Regency Drive (combination of Plan 0740553, Block 384 219MR and Plan 0740553, Block 384, 220MR). The school will be built on the northeast corner of the property.

École Claudette-et-Denis-Tardif is expected to be opening for the September 2025 school year, pending good weather, no supply chain issues and permit approvals.
CSCN working with Alberta Infrastructure and it’s architects are making every effort to ensure members of the Regency Park community continue to have access to important recreational amenities and green space. The site drawing includes the placement of all parking requirements on site that the school and community may need. The site drawing also includes the location of on site bus pick-up areas and pedestrian connections. Also, the site recognizes the stormwater pond to the south as a learning opportunity for students. Younger students will be directed towards the north of the site for play areas.
Strathcona County and CSCN is making every effort to ensure members of the Regency Park community continue to have access to important recreational amenities and green space. Construction fencing will be installed to protect the public from the construction zone. It is anticipated that a large portion of the west side of the park will still be available for enjoyment.
The land was originally zoned as Agriculture Future Use and Recreation a number of years ago. Strathcona County utilized this space for recreational opportunities for nearby residents, while knowing in the future a transition to another use would be possible.

Approximately 90% of students will commute to this site by bus and the design includes bus and student drop-off zones on the school site to limit the impact of the school on traffic.
As part of the development permitting process, the design team was required to submit a traffic impact assessment to the County that addresses items including, but not limited to, bussing, parent drop-off, parking, etc. Strathcona County works closely with the CSCN to ensure proper traffic management is in place for school sites. The CSCN will host an information session for the school’s families to address specific questions regarding programming and the move to the new school. Information will be shared with parents by the school in due course.

The pond and its naturalized vegetative buffer are outside of the area that is expected to be impacted by the construction of the school. In addition, based on the preliminary design plans, the school is planning to follow Strathcona County’s Light Efficient Community Policy which will help minimize the amount of glare, light trespass and light pollution that could potentially affect wildlife living in the pond.
Urban wildlife, including the waterfowl and other birds that inhabit this pond, are impacted by disturbances from humans like noise from traffic, lawnmowing, etc. and amenities like playgrounds, schools, trails and lighting. To minimize impacts, the school construction will be required to abide by the provincial Wildlife Act and the federal Migratory Birds Convention Act. This includes conducting pre-construction nesting bird surveys to ensure that no nests or birds are destroyed or disturbed by construction.
