Injury Management

Injuries Occurring at School

Athletes must tell both their coach and the athletic trainer of any injury that they get as soon as they are aware of it. The athletic trainer will evaluate the injury and then decide on the most appropriate course of action. The treatment for each athlete's injury is determined by the athletic trainer, the school physician, and the current best available research. Injuries will be referred to an outside physician on an as needed basis.

Injuries Occurring at Away Games

Unfortunately the athletic trainer cannot travel to teams' away games but will take care of all injured athletes the same. If an athlete gets injured during a game on the road, they must inform their coach that they have sustained an injury. The athlete's coach should alert the medical staff present at the game of the injury but based on the location and the severity of the injury, the coach can elect to refer the athlete to the Central Regional athletic trainer instead.

If the coach chooses to have the home school athletic trainer/ medical staff evaluate and treat the injury, please be aware that more than likely only basic and essential treatments may be done.

All hits to the head should be reported to the home school medical staff at the time of the event and treatment/return to play of the medical personnel must be followed.

The athlete must follow-up with the Central Regional athletic trainer about the injury as soon as possible. Communication between the athletic trainer and the parents about follow-up care and referral to physicians will be made as necessary.

Questions About Injuries

If you have any questions about an injury to your child please contact the athletic trainer. It is essential for parents to reach out to the athletic trainer about questions and concerns about an injury to ensure that the proper treatment is being done.

If an injury appears mild on one day and then seems to worsen , please call or email the athletic trainer to discuss the appropriate steps that should be followed. Parents always have the right to seek outside medical advice if they so choose . In a effort to reduce unnecessary missed play, it is highly recommended that you discuss with the athletic trainer first.

IF YOUR CHILD SEES A PHYSICIAN THEY MUST PROVIDE THE ATHLETIC TRAINER AND THE NURSES WITH A WRITTEN NOTE DETAILING THE TREATMENT PLAN.

YOUR CHILD MAY NOT RETURN TO ATHLETICS WITHOUT A WRITTEN NOTE FROM A DOCTOR RELEASING THEM BACK TO ATHLETICS.
