The Spanish Program at CIS is participating in an awesome fundraiser called "The Pulsera Project."
From December 16-December 20, the Spanish program will be selling hand-woven bracelets, or 'pulseras' in Spanish. The funds from these bracelets will benefit fair trade jobs, workers rights, sustainability, and education. Students will also be learning more about the culture, lives, and struggles of Central Americans.

Boys from Miss Harrison's 7F homeroom were appointed as Student Leaders for this project. They were given the title, "Marketing Men". Their role was to go to each homeroom at CIS, grades 4-8, to inform students about the project prior to the week of sales.
The girls from Miss Harrison's 7F Homeroom were also given Student Leadership roles. They signed up to help run the sales of these bracelets. These students worked together to run the money box, count up inventory, and assisted in all of the "background" work of purchasing bracelets.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win® Work Effectively with Others to Achieve Optimal Results
- It is a character-based code for human interaction and collaboration.
A school-wide fundraiser requires a lot of collaboration and interaction with others. Students Leaders worked together to create the presentations for each homeroom prior to sales. They also worked with various grade-levels for for these presentations. In addition, Student Leaders in charge of bracelet sales communicated with a large population of the student body at Central Intermediate.

This year, eighteen 6th through 8th grade Homerooms adopted families through the Salvation Army to help provide Christmas for families in need. Other CIS and CPS homerooms are supported this cause by bringing in extra supplies for the families. Students also brought in money to collect for families to have Christmas dinner.
This project has become a tradition at Central. The students enjoy learning about their adopted family, shopping, buying, and wrapping the gifts. Several of the classes also have a wrapping/pizza party, which is fun! This act of service is a great way for our students to practice Habit 4!
