When Will Class Meet?
Certain days of the week your teacher may request you to meet in class for small group or individual instruction as well as whole group instruction. You will have prior notification of these meeting times so as to schedule your online time accordingly.
What are the consequences for missing “Seat Time?”
Excused and unexcused absences fall under the same umbrella as traditional classes, per the student handbook. It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of required seat time.
Where will I be during online times?
During your “online time” you will report to designated common areas in the building (LMC/Commons).
What will I be doing when I’m not meeting with the teacher?
The “non-required classroom time” will require students to be working on assigned work, in a lab setting completing a required experiment, collaborating with students of the blended course, or in scheduled meetings with the teacher helping to improve on the skills needed to be successful for student achievement.
Are there quizzes, tests and finals?
Yes. They are the same assessments given for a traditional class. You will be expected to take all summative assessments in class.
How does it affect my other grades/GPA?
Blended Courses are counted the same as a traditional course setting for your grades/GPA at CHS.
Does Blended mean more work?
A blended course will follow the same curriculum as a traditional course. The difference between “blended” and “traditional” instruction is that students can work at their own pace or teachers can create flexible learning groups based on need; however, they still need to be mindful of deadlines set by the teacher. Students are also able to spend more 1 on 1 time with the teacher. Students need to be mindful to not procrastinate in their work.
What if a student is failing or falling behind?
Teachers will have required “seat time” for students performing below an expected grade in the class until their grade improves. Students not showing sufficient progress will also have required “seat time” to get caught back up. Once sufficient progress has been shown, student may return to regular “online time.”
How does “intervention time” fit into the “blended model?”
Blended learning provides more 1 on 1 time with the teacher. Teachers will have the ability to meet directly with students needing support during student “online time.” Students who require less 1 on 1 time have the ability to work ahead of pace and personally challenge themselves.
