Student iPads & MacBooks are intended for use during school each day. In addition to teacher expectations for iPad & MacBook use, school messages, announcements, calendars and schedules may be accessed using the iPad & MacBook. Students are responsible to bring their school devices to all classes, unless specifically instructed not to do so by their teacher.
Student iPads & MacBooks Left at Home
If students leave their iPad or MacBook at home, they are responsible for getting the coursework completed as if they had their iPad or MacBook present. A loaner iPad or MacBook will not be issued to the student.
Student iPads & MacBooks Undergoing Repair
Loaner iPads& MacBooks will be issued to students when device repair is needed.
There may be a delay in loaning an iPad or MacBook should the school not have enough iPads or MacBooks to loan.
Charging the Student iPad & MacBook Battery
iPads & MacBooks must be brought to school each day fully charged. A fully charged iPad & MacBook should have a battery life of approximately 7 to 10 hours. Therefore, students need to charge their iPads & MacBooks each evening.
In cases of low batteries, students may be able to connect their iPads & MacBooks to a power outlet in class only if cords are available.
Saving Documents
Students may save work on the iPads & MacBooks in multiple ways, including using their school Google account.
Storage space will be available on the iPad & MacBook—BUT documents will NOT be backed up in cases where the iPad or MacBook needs to be restored during the repair process. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their work is not lost due to mechanical failure or accidental deletion.
An iPad or MacBook malfunction is not an acceptable excuse for not submitting work.
Originally Installed Apps
Students will not be able to install apps. All apps will be district provided.
The apps originally installed by Central Community School must remain on the iPad & MacBook and be easily accessible at all times.
From time to time the school may add apps for use in a particular course.
Periodic checks of iPads & MacBooks will be made to ensure that students have not removed required apps.
Additional Apps
Students are not allowed to load extra apps on their iPads & MacBooks. Central Community School will sync the iPads & MacBooks so that they contain the necessary apps for school work.
Students will not sync their iPad & MacBook to another device without the permission of the other user.
Recommendations for any app can go to a teacher for consideration or by completing the app recommendation form.
Procedure for Re-Loading Apps
If technical difficulties occur or non-Central Community School installed apps are discovered, the iPad or MacBook will be restored from backup.
Upgrade versions of apps are available from time to time. Students may be required to check in their iPads or MacBooks for periodic updates and syncing.
The school does not accept responsibility for the loss of apps or documents deleted due to a re-format and re-image.
Screensavers/Background Photos
Inappropriate images and media may not be used as a screensaver or background photo.
Presence of guns or weapons; pornographic materials; racist images; inappropriate language; or alcohol, drug, gang related symbols or pictures will result in disciplinary actions.
Sound, Music, Games, or Programs
Students have access to music on their iPads & MacBooks. However, the music must not contain inappropriate or abusive lyrics or questionable subject matter.
Sound must be muted or headphones used at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes.
Internet games are not allowed on the school iPads & MacBooks unless permission is obtained from the teacher.
Photos/Videos
Students can not take photos or record videos of other students, staff, or anyone without their permission.
The possession, forwarding or uploading of unauthorized photos or videos to any website, network storage area, or person is strictly forbidden.
Photos and videos taken with the iPad or MacBook can not be used to slander, bully or denigrate any student, staff member, or anyone on or off the campus at any time.
Photos and video recorded with the student iPads & MacBooks are for educational purposes only.
FaceTime, Google Meet, Zoom, Etc.
Video communication tools will be used strictly for educational purposes only and under the direct supervision of staff.
Video communication tools require a sizeable amount of bandwidth, and therefore, can slow the school network.
Printing
Printing will be available through Central staff.
For printing at home, contact tech support at school for more information.
Inspection
Students may be selected at random to provide their iPads & MacBooks for inspection.
Home Internet Access
Students are allowed to set up wireless networks on their iPads & MacBooks. This will assist them with iPad & MacBook use at home.
