Receiving the iPad/Laptop
iPads (kindergarten through 8th grade) and laptops (9th through 12th grade) will be distributed at the beginning of each school year. Parents & students must sign and submit all sections of the Central Internet & Laptop/iPad Acceptable Use Agreement before the iPad or laptop can be issued to the student.
What Comes With the Student iPad or MacBook
Each iPad and MacBook come with a cover/case, bag, power cord and cube, and pre-installed apps.
Mandatory School-Issued Device Cases
All students issued a district laptop or iPad are required to keep their device inside the school-provided protective case and sleeve at all times.
No Removal: The school-issued case must remain securely on the device. Students are strictly prohibited from removing the case for any reason, including customizing or using the device at home.
No Personal Replacements: Students may not replace, swap, or substitute the school-issued case with a personal, cover, shell, or case, regardless of whether it meets the device's exact technical specifications.
Identification Visibility: The school-issued case is structurally designed to keep the district inventory label visible. Obscuring, removing, or covering this label or the case itself with personal stickers, writing, drawings, or alterations is strictly prohibited.
Case Maintenance: The protective case furnished by the school district must be returned at the end of the school year with only normal wear and no permanent alterations to avoid a replacement fee.
Enforcement: Failure to keep the device in its designated school-issued case will be treated as a policy infraction under the Student Discipline guidelines, and the student may face a temporary loss of device privileges.
Returning the iPad/Laptop
iPads and laptops will be returned during the final week of school for updates during the summer months. If a student transfers out of the Central Community School District during the school year, the iPad or laptop will be returned at that time.
Check-In Fines
All school-issued iPads, laptops and accessories must be returned to Central Community School at the end of each school year. Students who graduate early, transfer to alternative school, withdraw, are suspended or expelled, or terminate enrollment at Central Community School for any other reason must return their school-issued iPad or laptop on the date of termination. If a student fails to return the iPad or laptop at the end of the school year or upon termination of enrollment, that student will be subject to criminal prosecution or civil liability. Failure to return the iPad or laptop will result in a theft report being filed with the Elkader Police Department. The student will also be responsible for the replacement cost of the iPad or laptop.
Furthermore, the student will be responsible for any damage to the iPad or laptop, consistent with the District’s Acceptable Use Agreement, and must return the iPad or laptop and accessories to Central Community School in satisfactory condition. The student will be charged a fee for any needed repairs due to damage, not to exceed the replacement cost of the iPad or laptop.
