The idea of my concentration is the expressiveness of hands. I have always thought that hands were an interesting and unique part of human anatomy. Hands are like snowflakes; each one is different in their own way. By how they’re positioned, or perhaps by the way they are worn, you can tell so much about a person like emotions or occupations. They can also be very expressive. I believe hands communicate more than words could, which is an aspect I wanted to show in my concentration.
Earlier I had done an observational hand study (drawing 1) with several different people’s hands. A big thing I noticed when going from person to person was the differences between their hands. I loved how unique, individualistic, and challenging they were. So that’s when I decided that I wanted to focus my concentration on hands. When working on image 2 I came to a realization that it expressed more than individuality, it also told a story. From the first glace, you’ll see it’s a hand of a person bending a deck of cards. However, if you think more on it you may start to brainstorm why the person is holding cards like perhaps he is an illusionist. That’s when I started to develop my concentration more into the depth of hands. Then, as I was working on image 3 I noticed that not only did the hands tell a story but it also communicated a message of prayer. So that’s when I finalized my concentration to be the expressiveness of hands, showcased in 3-12. So, drawing 4 represented fighting. 5 is people holding hands but slowing letting ago/falling apart. Image 6 expresses changes through age. 7-9 are more symbolic, being that of rock n’ roll & peace. Image 8 is to express someone shushing, done on a book page. 10 represents a small but powerful pinky promise. Image 11 represents soulmates connected and 12 expresses hunger.
