Anissa Sailer “Pineapple”
13 ½ x 6, Cardboard, hot glue, scissors and acrylic paint, 2021
The style of my artwork is realism, the idea was to make it look as close to a pineapple as I could get. My idea was pretty close to what it ended up being. I started by making a base, I then cut strips of cardboard and slowly began connecting the pieces onto the base. I connected then in a diagonal way hoping to make a checkered pattern, but that didn't end up working. I peeled off the top layer of cardboard for the leaves for the ruffled look. I would change the size of the artwork itself. I think if I would have done it a little smaller I would've had more time to focus on smaller details, and make it more realistic. I would also change the color, I don't like how bright the yellow is. I liked the top of the pineapple, I think it was a smart idea to make them look rough, it gave the artwork some texture. Overall it was a fun experience, but I'm not sure if I would do it again.
Anissa Sailer “Bee”
4 x 1½, Thin and thick wire, pliers and wire cutter, 2021
The style of my sculpture is realism. I changed my project plan three times throughout the process, and ended up doing a bee. I took a marker and wrapped some thicker wire around it to create a spring, and I did that three times to construct the body of the bee. I connected those pieces with thin wire, which I also used to create the wings. Something I would change would be the animal, I found the bee to be a little boring and dull. My favorite part of this sculpture is the body, I like how it’s a spring and how it moves.
Anissa Sailer “Octopot”
7 ½ x 4, 2021
The style of my utilitarian project is surreal. It is a simple round bowl with a lid that gives it personality. I started my project with a small pinch bowl, and slowly made coils going around the rim of the bowl. I wanted to make the bowl round so I made the coils to help get that shape. I used a rib to make the coils smooth on both the inside and outside. For the lid I just started with a clump of clay and formed the legs and head, connecting them with the score and slip method. I fired the clay to make it greenery, then I glazed the entire thing with the glaze that had glass in it to create a different look. If I could start over I would change the animal on top of the bowl. My favorite thing about my project is the color, I like the glass pieces, it made the color abstract and unique.
Anissa Sailer “Turner the Turtle”
3 ½ x 2, Glaze, clay, slip, needle tool and texture tools, 2021
The style of my project is surrealism. My starting idea was to create a small tortoise with a smooth shell and just a simple look. As I started making it I realized that it was a little boring and it didn't have any personality. So I experimented with the different shapes and decided to make it different and unique with spikes on its shell which I added with the score and slip method. If I started over I would change the eyes, I tried adding a piece of glass to make the eyes different colors and it did not turn out like I had hoped. I love the spikes I added on the shell, It created personality and a different style to the artwork.
Anissa Sailer "Chicken George"
3 x 1 1/2, Glaze, white clay, needle tool and texture tools, 2021
They style of my project is realism. I started by wanting to make a small chicken nic nac. I made it simple and I chose to do different colors for the eyes and beak. I just started with a hunk of clay and made a pinch bowl with it to create the body. Then I made the beak, eyes and comb separately and added them on by using the score and slip method. I loved how this turned out its very colorful and it has personality, I would chance the size of it if I did it again.
Anissa Sailer "Cow"
4 x 4, Yarn, needle, embroidery string and fabric, and popsicle sticks, 2021.
I started with a pattern and just cross stitched the pattern on the fabric and then made a frame out of popsicle sticks, yarn and hot glue.
