Abigail Castleman, "Medusa"

9x12 Graphite, Colored Pencil, 2019

The style of this is a combination of realism and abstract. It's my rendition of what I think Medusa looked like. Medusa, if you don't know is considered a monster in greek mythology. She has snakes the replace her hair and the power to turn those who look into her eyes into stone. Despite being a monster, I wanted to make her beautiful and tempting to look at so she can turn people into stone. If I were to start over, I would've left the lips black and white, and I wouldn't have added shading in the corners of the paper.

Abigail Castleman, "Lavender Skies"

9x12, Colored Pencil, Graphite, Marker, Ballpoint pen, 2019

I'd consider the style of this piece to be surrealism. There isn't any symbolism. This piece is more about sparking a feeling rather than meaning something. That feeling being peaceful and calm. If I were to start over, I would want the eye in the bottom left corner to to be smaller. I'd also change the dangling things in the right, top corner into something else. What i most love about this piece would have to be how the hands came out, along with the middle section.

Abigail Castleman, “Reflection Study”

9x12, Colored Pencil, 2019

The style of this artwork is a mix between realism, paired with pop art. I was heavily inspired by Jeff Koons sculptures. I also paired it was a pop art background with retro-like colors. If I could start over, I’d make the red dots smaller and more symmetrical. I really like the balloon dog and how it came out. Although I wish I would’ve put more detail into it, I'm still really happy with how it turned out.
