AVID stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination". The AVID College and Career Readiness System is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance for students in grades 7–12 by equipping them with the WICOR tools to be investigative learners. AVID comes from the Latin root avidus, meaning “eager for knowledge.” A well-developed AVID system restructures the teaching methods of an entire school and opens access to rigorous curricula, raising advanced-level course enrollments and increasing the number of students attending college.
Higher education is defined as anything beyond high school, so AVID, in Celina ISD, will help students understand the benefits of attending college, vocational, or trade schools. The message routinely given to students is to work each day to obtain marketable skills that can be utilized in a fulfilling career in an ever-changing global society.
As we all know, building relationships is an important aspect of life. AVID focuses on the importance of effective communication using different strategies so that students graduate with tools that help them advocate for themselves effectively.

The AVID framework defines college and career readiness by breaking it into two key components: what students need and what educators do. This approach creates a shared language that helps us address the needs of our students and guide them toward their chosen postsecondary paths.
To succeed after high school, students must develop essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, reading, writing, and relationship-building. At the heart of this development is a strong belief in oneself. When students believe in their capabilities, they build a foundation of confidence that fosters a willingness to learn and the resilience to overcome challenges.
