Introduction
Students will preview the rubric that will be used for their presentations, watch an example pitch by Bill Jam the Waffle Man, score the video, and plan their pitches, making sure that every member has an active part in the presentation.
Preparation needed for instruction:
Print the Pitch Rubric - one per student
Have the Belgian Waffle Pitch video ready
You may choose to post the Pitch Planning questions
Part 1 - Pitch Assessment: 15-20 min
Introduce and discuss the Pitch Rubric with the class so they understand how the rubric will be used to judge their pitch. Emphasize that the rubric should help guide them as they continue with their calculations and pitch plan. Give the students experience using the rubric by playing the Belgian Waffle Pitch Video and instructing students about how to evaluate it using the rubric. They should record their evaluation scores for the waffle example on the line marked "Bill Jam". The video will also provide them with an example of a pitch like the one they will make during the next class.
Part 2 - Pitch Preparation: 30-40 min
Students should plan their concession stand pitches. Instruct them that all members of the group must actively present information, they must present in front of the class, and their pitch should include:
The problem they are trying to solve,
The requirements--i.e. the things that their solution must accomplish in order to be considered successful, and any constraints that might limit what they want to do, and
Information from the Concession Calculation Sheet (information/data that was used to assist in the decision-making process).
