Hello everyone!
I'm Sofía, this year's Physical Education teacher, let's have some fun together!
🙅 RULES IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION (P. E.) 🙅
To start with, these months we've been working constantly on some basic rules:
Will they be able to follow them?
🤚🙂BODY AWARENESS 🦵🦶
We've been working on our bodies and their different parts, being able to identify some of their main parts and moving them according to some instructions.
↪️ RIGHT AND LEFT ↩️
Moreover, related to body awareness, the kids have been learning and moving both sides of their body: right and left. It's something confusing, but they're making good progress!
🚶 SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL PERCEPTION ⏳
On the other hand, we've been working on the space and the time, more specifically on moving confidently on our known spaces, such as the gym, moving slowly and fast following the rhythm of a tambourine or imitating sequences of movements. Its' been fun!
🏴☠️ BREAKOUT 🔐
The other day, a famous pirate, Gold D. Sophie, came to the school and left us a misterious chest but... It has a lock and they needed the correct code to open it and discover the treasure inside the chest.
Were they able to unlock the chest? OF COURSE THEY WERE!
To do so, they had to work hand to hand with their groups to obtain the numbers of the code in each of the 5 stations. It was not easy, but they did great!
These were the stations:
They were working very hard on it:
And this was their reward: their pirate card, that allows them to be part of Gold D. Sophie's crew, and a little diamond 💎
☔ RAINY DAYS 🌧️
On rainy days, we have had the opportuinty to review some aspects such as body parts and we have done this in two different ways:
PLAYING WITH PLICKERS
CREATING A BODY IN GROUPS
On the other hand, they have also self-assessed themselves in order to think about their own learning, progress and behaviour.
🏃♀️TAG GAMES 👟
They love to play tag games so, to warm up, we usually play some of their favourites: araña peluda, infinito, virus, comecocos, cocodrilo dormilón...
🤹 COORDINATION AND BALANCE ⛹️
This month of December, we started improving our balance and coordination. In order to do so, they have been walking on benches, ropes, lines... and they even pushed each others on a mat trying to keep their balance.
❄️AFTER CHRISTMAS BREAK...❄️
We are back from the Christmas break, and we have kept working on our balance and coordination. And you would wonder, how? Take a look at the photos and check how fun they have while they improve their skills!
STATIONS
There have been many rainy days lately, so when they had the oppotunity to go to the gym, they have been improving their physical skills through STATIONS. This is a great way of working on physical skills such as displacements, jumps or spins, but also to improve their social skills. Here you have some examples of what they do in class:
JUMPS AND SPINS
These months we've been also working on different kinds of jumps and spins. In fact, they have improved a lot in skiping the rope, some of them have mastered it!
THROWS AND CATCHES
Besides, they have started to practice some throws using different objects such as little sacks, frisbees, balls... This way, they can experiment by throwing objects of different shapes, weights or textures, which makes the experience more enriching.
🇮🇪 GAELIC FOOTBALL 🇮🇪
As you know, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17, and to learn more about Ireland and its traditions, we were lucky enough to have Garreth, an Irish dad, who joined us this week to teach us a little bit about Gaelic Football, a traditional Irish sport.
Thank you very much, Garreth!
Here's a video showing how Gaelic Football is played, although, obviously, the children played an adapted version of the sport:
