Science Lab Rules
Respect yourself, your peers, your teacher, and your surroundings.
Raise your hand silently to speak.
Follow all directions quickly the first time they are given.
Exceptional Behavior Rewards
Students who show genuine kindness and go above when following classroom rules may receive a KUDOS note.
Students who are given KUDOS will have their name placed in a canister for their grade band (K-2, 3-5, 6-8).
At the end of the quarter a name will be drawn from each grade band to receive a special grand prize.
Consequences
Warning: This is your opportunity to change your behavior without getting in trouble.
Behavior Think Sheet/Seat Change: This is your chance to regroup and reflect away from the situation.
Parent or Guardian Contact: Contact will be made to solve the problem and prevent it from happening again. A lunch detention will be assigned.
Referral: Your behavior is unacceptable and needs to be addressed with the principal.
Extreme misbehavior will be sent to the principal’s office without a warning.
Science Lab Behavior System
Each class will begin the period with the word “ATOMS” on the board.
When the class is not following the classroom expectations, a letter will be removed from the word.
Each letter equals one point. At the end of class, Mrs. Ohm will let your teacher know how many points were earned that day. Mrs. Ohm will keep a log of points earned.
At the end of the quarter, the class from each grade band with the highest points will receive a class reward of their choosing.
Lab Safety
Being safe in the lab is the most important thing you can do. Unsafe students will not be permitted to participate in lab.
All students in grades 4-8 will sign a lab safety agreement at the beginning of the year. Parents must also read and sign the agreement. Students cannot participate in lab and will have to do an alternative assignment until the agreement is signed and returned to Mrs. Ohm.
