The Jewish Escape

The Nazis had scheduled the deportation of all the Jews in Denmark on October 1 and 2 and thankfully for the Jews in Denmark a German by the name of Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz told Danish political leaders about the Nazis plan. This spurred the Danes into action and Danes everywhere were doing what they could to help the Jews hide and escape. They gave them coats, there house keys and money to aid them in there escape from Denmark. The Danes also put cocaine on rags and stuck them around and when the Nazis dogs smelled the cocaine it rendered them a useless weapon against the Jews. Over the week before the scheduled deportation Jews everywhere fled and hid from the Nazis. When things where getting desperate for the Jews in hiding salvation came. The King of Sweden was going to accept all immigrants that were coming from Denmark. The Jews in hiding flocked by night to the harbors and small fishing villages to get someone that would ferry them across to Sweden. In those few night 8,000 Jews were saved with effort of both Swedes and Danes.
