ClassDojo is a behaviour management tool for the classroom. Each student has a profile – complete with their own avatar – to which teachers can assign positive and negative points (or 'dojos') throughout the day.
A positive and proactive approach will be used in room #5. Students will receive individual and whole class praise. 4th graders will practice routines and discuss expectations multiple times. These will be reviewed throughout the year so students have multiple opportunities to practice and be successful. Students will receive verbal warnings for any unacceptable or inappropriate behavior. If the behavior does not improve step one will occur.
STEP ONE: STUDENT/ TEACHER CONFERENCE
This conference will help determine a plan for making good choices in the future. If the behavior does not improve step two will occur. Failure to comply with consequences will result in the student moving to the next step. This student/teacher conference will take place during the child's recess.
STEP TWO: PARENT/ TEACHER CONFERENCE
The teacher will conference with a parent and student by phone or in person to determine a plan for making better choices in the future. If the behavior does not improve step three will occur. Failure to comply with consequences will result in the student moving to the next step.
STEP THREE: FIRST OFFICE REFERRAL
The teacher will send the student to the office with a referral form or will contact the office by phone. This referral may result in a conference with a counselor, one hour detention, or parent notification by the principal. Failure to comply with consequences will result in the student moving to the next step.
STEP FOUR: SECOND OFFICE REFERRAL
A referral given by the teacher or other staff member within four weeks of the previous referral may result in a conference with the student and parent, one day in-school suspension or detention, conference with counselor, or other intervention. Failure to comply with consequences will result in the student moving to the next step.
STEP FIVE: THIRD OFFICE REFERRAL
A referral given by the teacher or other staff member within four weeks of the previous referral may result in a 3 day in-school suspension, parent conference with understand that the next action will be an administrative review, conference with counselor, or other intensive intervention. Failure to comply with consequences will result in the student moving to the next step.
STEP SIX: 4 OR MORE OFFICE REFERRALS
A referral given by the teacher or other staff member within four weeks of the previous referral may result in a parent conference with school staff, 3 day in-school suspension, administrative review, out-of school suspension, or expulsion.
