Will Dinh "The Island Story"
9x9, Stop Motion Story, 2025Â
My idea at first was to make a story in my stop motion projects, at first it was a basket dunking montage, but I realised that it was to plain and easy. So it evolved into this, my final project, the Island story.
Before I even got to record the actual stop motion I had to build the different things, like the boat and the people in the story, as well as making the background like the tree and the ocean. I used tools like markers and picks and stuff that I could mold the model clay with.
The artwork shows human nature; in the story, the guy on the boat saves the guy stranded. And when the guy who's stranded gets on the boat and falls off. The captain jumps off and saves him, in return, though the guy kills the captain and rebuilds the boat.
The most difficult part of this project was adding new things into my stop motion, such as the meteor or the boat that slowly rocks towaards the island. There wouldn't really be anything else I would add, maybe an animal or two, but other than that my project i pretty complete.
This style of art is more surreal , because this could never happen. This makes it unique to my style because it is unpredictable what would happen next. And it can go any other way and you don't expect whats going to happen next. I love the shock factor it gives because you don't know whats going to happen next.
