Will Dinh "Flower Garden"
4x6x12, Bent wire and hot glue, 2026
My idea is to make a flower garden out of wire, it evolved from making a simple crane, to a whole flower garden. I got the idea to make a flower garden because once I made the crane I realised it was to easy and decided to challenge myself with making a flower which was 100x times harder, since the wire was hard to bend and keep in place.
For the flowers I had to first make the stems by intertwining 5 different wires which took 2 entire classes to do. Then I had to make the actual petals which took so long because each time I messed up the petals I had to restart and reshape the wire. I use tools like wire cutters and my bare hands to do that.
The artwork shows the difficulty in making something beautiful, even though it looks simple it took a lot of effort and time to make. Just like an actual flower, when the audience looks at my piece I want them to image the flower in their hands and them holding it.
The most difficult part was shaping the flower and molding it into the way that I wanted it to be. Making the flower was so hard just because of the fact that if I messed up the petal then I had to restart with new wire. I overcame this with persistence and eventually got it to look exactly how I wanted it to. If I were to start over I would've tried to make a second or maybe on the first flower I could've added more wire to make the base thicker.
This is a mix of realistic and abstract art, because even though the flower is real, the stuff in the background is not. It's unique to my own style because, anyway, you look at it, it looks very messy and chaotic, but the more time you spend looking at it the more you can see how complete and beautiful it is. I love that it kind of resembles an actual flower, looking simple first glance, but taking a lot of effort and time in the background.
