Will Dinh "The Fable of the Tree"
9x9, Stop Motion Story, 2026
My idea was to make a stop motion project. I was inspired because, as a little kid, I would watch stop-motion movies, and I decided to make a story.
I used clay and my hand to shape the clay into figures and moved them around accordingly.
The stop motion shows a story; in the story, the guy is formed from nothing and then gets saved by his friend. And then everyone dies, and from his ashes a tree is born.
The most difficult thing to overcome was coming up with the idea of the story. Along with that, another hard thing was actually making the figures stay in place because sometimes they would lean to one side and then lean to the other. And it was very hard to shape them. If I had to start over, I would've used clay that was softer and easier to form.
The style of art is surreal, with not a lot of realism in it. It makes it unique to my style because its chaotic, and a lot of the artwork that I have made is chaotic. The thing that I love the most about it is the fact that I made it myself and that I took the time to make each scene by hand, and watching it come together is awesome
