PAINTING 2

Remi Ruggeberg "Mental Health"

18x20, paint, paintbrush, sharpie, 2022

My idea for this painting was to create a painting about depression to show mental health and to create awareness. I got the idea because we were asked to create a painting about a social issue so I decided to do mental health. More than 50% of Americans have a mental health disorder and 20% of people have had or have experienced some form of depression in their life. My progress for making this was first drawing out my person. Second I painted around the outside all black. Then I began to paint the person using grey, blue, tan, and brown to create the person. I next drew scribbles with a sharpie of inside the thought of the person to create the feeling of thousands of thoughts. I want my audience to feel as if they knew what the person is going through.  I tried to show this through the dark colors I used. The most difficult part of this painting was probably painted around the person. If I were to start over I probably would change the thought bubble into something else. I think this painting is abstract because I just came up with it in my head.

Remi Ruggeberg "Sunset"

18x20, paint, paintbrush

My idea for this painting was to create a painting that reminded me of my trip to Florida. The story behind this is when I was in Florida and I looked out on the last day and there was a beautiful sunset. I want people to look at this painting and make their own stories about it. My progress for making this painting was first painting the background ombre pink, orange, and yellow.  Then I blended black and blue to create the ocean water. Next, I added the white sun to my painting and created texture for the sun. I added colorful lines to the sky and the water to add color. I want my audience to imagine they are looking out at this sunset, and make their own story about it. I try to do this by not adding a story to it. The most difficult part of this painting was making the sun. The sun was pretty hard to make circular. If I were to start over I would add more detail to the water like adding waves.
