My idea was to create a flower with petals that overlapped each other. I got the idea because Maelea and I wanted to do something that went together, and we both really love flowers, so that's how the idea of flowers evolved. I decided to do this flower because my favorite color is purple and I like how this type of flower is structured. The very first thing I did was create a stem so that I had a base for the flowers. I then started to go in with one petal at a time and overlapped it onto the previous petal. Once I was finished building the flower, it was time to put it in the kiln. When the flower was fired and came out of the kiln, I used acrylic paint to paint the flower. The symbolism behind my flower is supposed to be a friendship flower with Maelea. I want my audience to see our flowers next to each other and assume they go together in a pair. The most difficult part for me was trying to get the petals to stay together. They kept falling off, and I kept having to reattach them. I solved this problem by using slip to seal the petals back together. If I were to change one if I started over, I would've smooshed the back of the flower together and back make the petals look 3-D. My magnet is realistic because it is based off of a real flower. It is unique to my own personal style because it shows my love for flowers. I love how I painted the petals a light purple, my favorite color.

My idea was to create a vessel that started wide at the bottom and then got skinny in the middle, and then wide again at the top. The idea came to me because I wanted to create something that was easy to carry in the middle. Most vases that you see are large at the bottom and then get skinny in the middle and then larger back at the top. This was a very long process of coiling, and at times I wanted to give up. It took a very long time to smooth out the coils and keep building the vessel taller. Once I was finished with the coiling and smoothing it was time to add a detail to the outer part of the vessel. I decided to do diamonds because they are simple shapes that could fill in the area. Finally when I was done with the designs, it was time to fire and glaze. I wanted to glaze my vessel with a simple light colored blue which is why I chose this one. This artwork shows that diamonds are some of my favorite shapes and I really like the color blue. I want the audience to think this is a modern day made sculpture, but with a few of the artists favorite details. The most difficult thing for me was to stay focused and keep working to finish my vessel. I overcame the struggles by pushing myself to work harder and remind myself that it only gets easier after the coiling process. If there was one thing I could change if I started over would be to wait the full 10 minutes before starting the next layer of glaze. The glaze didn't turn out how I wanted and it looks very splotchy. The style of artwork for my vessel is realistic. It is supposed to look like a modern vase which is why it is realistic. It is unique to my personal style because it shows my ideas such as shapes and colors. I love how the shape turned out, and it was just how I wanted.
These three pots were all made from my days on the wheel. My idea was to try to create three pots that all looked very similar. I got this idea when I started my second pot and I wanted to to be very much like the first one, and the idea stuck for the third pot. I started by putting a big chunk of clay on the wheel and then forcing the clay to make a little mountain on the wheel. Once the mountain was stable and smooth I could push my finger into the middle and start to pull it outwards. I used my sponge to make sure the inside of my pot was smooth and even as I was pulling up from the bottom. Then when the bowl was the size and shape I wanted it was time to be done, so I used the tool to pick the bowl up and wait for it to be fired. I repeated this process two other times and then decided to glaze all of the pots the same color since I knew they were going to be a set. The artwork is supposed to symbolize a group of pots that all go in the same collection. I want my audience to think that they were all made to go together by looking at the color. The most difficult part for me was getting my chunk of clay to stick to the wheel and stay firm. I overcame this problem by asking Ms. Garrity for help with getting it to stick. If I could start over and change something I would've been more gentle when I was picking the pots up off of the wheel, because one of the times I wasn't so gentle and a hole formed on the bottom of my pot, but I fixed it. The style is realistic because it looks like a real pot that could be bought at the store. The pots are unique because they are all made reletively the same and they are all glazed in the same color. I love how eat pot is a little different, but they all still belong in the collection.
Our idea was to create a stop motion video that delivered the message of kindness. This idea came to us because we know how people all over the world struggle with kindness, so we wanted out video to be just a small reminder to alwasy show kindness. We were inspired by the golden rule of "Treat others how you want to be treated" because you never know what someone is going through. We started off by cutting a cardboard box to make the base of our set. The next thing we did was plaint the whole set blue, and then later added greenery to give the pond more details. The we start to sculpt our from characters, just our of green clay. Once our frogs we sculpted, we finished up by cutting out some lily pads and a fish out of colored printer paper. The artwork symbolizes kindness and friendship. After watching the video, I was the audience to learn that people could at any point be going through a tough time, so just always be kind to everyone. The most difficult part for us was getting the camera to stay in the same place so that all our pictures matched up with the setting. We overcame this problem by having Maelea hold the camera in place while I moved the frogs a little bit each time. One thing I would change if we started over would be to add a little more detailing to our video to make it a little longer. The style of art is surreal because it represents real life objects and animals, but it is something that will never happen because animals can't talk. It is unique to our personal style because we believe that everyone should spread kindness. I love that the message is clear for any audience to understand.
