The objective of this stop motion project was for one of the boys to face his fear of jumping off the diving board. The boy was at the pool with his friend when all of a sudden he got pushed off the diving board. The lifeguard was no help so the friend had to save him all by himself. In the end, he faced his fear of going off the diving board.
My idea was to create a tall vase to put flowers in. I got the idea from wanting something to put flowers in. I liked the idea of putting a floral pattern on the outside, especially if the vase was going to be used for flowers.
I started off by putting a pattern on a slab of clay. I did this to give the vase some texture and detail. I used the technique of rolling a slab together. I pinched the edges together so they would stick.
There was no meaning behind this, but I really enjoy looking at flowers, so I wanted to make something to put them in. I want the audience to think that the beauty isn't in the vase, but it's in the flowers. There is nothing symbolic in this vase.
The most difficult part was when I had to pinch the edges together. I couldn't get my hands in the inside of the vase, so I was scared it would fall apart. I overcame this struggle by using a sponge to get in the inside of the vase. If I were to change anything, I would've made the vase bigger. Making the vase bigger would've prevented the struggles I had.
This is a realistic vase. The vase is unique because it shows that I am a person who enjoys flowers. I love the color and the pattern.
My idea was to create a nicely shaped jewelry tray. I've done something close to this before, so I wanted to do something similar. I got the idea from pinterest and thought I should try something like it.
I first carved out the shaped of the star from my base slab. I then made a really long line so that I could coil the outer edge to make a wall.
There is no personal meaning behind this art piece. There isn't something specific I was the audience to think about, but that nothing has to be perfect. There isn't anything symbolic with my jewelry tray.
The most difficult part was getting the outer edge to stay on top of the base. I overcame this struggle by just scratching and slipping a lot. If I started over, I would've blended and smoothed the edge and base better together. It was a little messy, which is something I would've changed.
This is a realistic jewelry tray. The tray is unique because it's a shape that not everyone has for a jewelry tray, so I wanted to try something different. I love how it's not too big, and it's small enough for my jewelry.
My idea was to make something I can use for chips and salsa. I like chips and salsa, so I wanted something hand-made to put them in. There wasn't anything that inspired me to make these bowls.
I first used a pattern on the slab. I then used the technique of slumping to make the bowls. Once The bowls were slumped enough to the size I liked, I used a tool to trim the edges of the bowls.
There is nothing personal behind these bowls. I want the audience to remember that when it comes to clay you need to use your imagination for how you want your final piece to look. There is nothing symbolic behind my art.
Surprisingly, the most difficult part was trimming the edges of the bowl to make smooth. I overcame this struggle by just sanding the edges when they came out of the kiln. If I started over and changed something, I would've made the edges thicker. Once they were out of the kiln, they were very thin and sharp.
These are realistic chip and salsa bowls. These are unique because they show my love for chips and salsa. I love that I now have something hand-made to use when I eat chips and salsa.
This pot was made on the kick-wheel. The kick-wheel was harder than the electric wheel to control. I struggled with keeping the same speed throughout the entire process. In the end, this was the best out of all my pots that I sculpted. I was only a little disappointed with the glazing because it didn't turn out in the color I wanted it to. I think the problem was that I didn't evenly distribute the glaze.
