Drawing I

Izzy Heitz, "Baseline"

5" x 7", Pen & Colored Pencil, 2024

My idea was to draw things I like to sketch often but add more details to them. I got the idea by thinking about stuff I like and love to draw and it evolved to a small collage of mystic and minimal items surrounding a shelf of magical seeming books. I got my inspiration from personal preferences when it comes to doing simple sketches and just adding a bit more details.

I started by doing a simple sketch in pencil of the objects, then I went over the lines in pen. The next thing I did was went in and colored some of the spaces in pen and some in color pencil. I used colored pens and pencils, while I just colored the objects, I did shade the crystals by doing each segment a dark shade of a color. I made it look like the sun was hitting the crystals in a certain way.

The piece is meant to show a collection of seemingly magical items. The shimmery stars are symbolic of glitter shining off the items.

The hardest part was figuring out what to draw. I over struggles by simply stepping back and thinking about it, then just started to draw. I would have made it more organized and look like a book shelf rather than a random collection of objects.

The art style is realistic though I feel like it has surreal components. It is similar to my own style because I typically will doodle similar things but usually in less detail. I love the colors and lighting details I did for the crystals

Izzy Heitz, "Half-blood House"

11" x 18", Colored pencil, 2024

My idea was to create a landscape of the Big House from Percy Jackson & the Olympians with a background of a forest. I got this idea because I love the Percy Jackson series and it evolved to the idea that you are walking up to the house in the early morning. I got inspiration from a picture of the Big House I found on Pintrest and a picture of a forest that I found on google. I also pulled the main inspiration from one of my favorite series.

I started by using my reference photo to draw on to my final paper with a grid on it. Then I erased the grid and started to color and detail the house. I also added the trees and stepping stones as well as color and detail them as well. I used colored pencils and a blending pencil. I blended the color on the first floor of the house as well as gradient from a dark to light blue. I also used a bit of layering to get a lighter color from the dark colors.

It means to transport the audience to the world of Percy Jackson and the grand scale of the house. I want the audience to be transported into the world of Percy Jackson and kind of imagine what it would be like. The trees are meant to show that the house is surrounded by a forest.

The hardest part was detailing the fences and overhang details. I overcame this by taking my time and moving on to other parts if it was getting frustrating. I would try to fix one of the windows on the first story because it's a bit tilted.

The style of this piece is realistic. It is unique to my own style because I enjoy making detailed landscapes of places from things I love. I really love all the little details and how beautifully realistic it looks.

Izzy Heitz, "Megan Moroney"

8" x 11",  Pastel & Graphite, 2024

My idea was to create a portrait of a singer using both color and black & white. I got this idea from looking through photos from a concert for Megan Moroney I went to and I thought it would be a great. It evolved into the final piece as I decided it would be a good idea to have her in color and I had also found the perfect picture to use. I was inspired by the concert I went to and it was also the best day of my life so I just had to use the picture. I started by gridding out and sketching the outline of the picture. Then I started coloring Megan with pastels by layering and blending them which is evident in the dress. I then shaded the guitar with graphite while using white pastel to bring out the white areas. Finally I used a combination of white and black graphite to do the background and mic stand. I blended black and white graphite with a blending stick for the background, guitar, and mic stand. I also layered and blended, with a blending stick, pastels for Megan and her outfit.

The meaning is for Megan Moroney to be a light and pop of color for her fans when the world may not be as bubbly as her shows. I want the audience to think about how their favorite artist has helped them through the rollercoaster of life. Megan being in color is symbolic of how she can bring happiness to her fans and the world.

The most difficult part was the facial features and shading the boots and skin just right. I over came these struggles by asking for help and taking a break when it became a bit overwhelming. I would have changed the hair as I would try to make it a bit more detailed.

The art style would be realistic. It's unique to my style because I enjoy drawing about things I love whether it be music, reading, or shows. I love how her dress and guitar turned out.

Print Making Idea

My idea for print making was to create a memorial like piece for Jellie, GoodTimesWithScar's cat. I added a crown because she was often referred to as Queen Jellie. I also tried to make her as detailed as possible while making her Minecraft like. This is because she was a Mincrafter's cat and was put into Minecraft as a cat breed.

Izzy Heitz, "Baby Monkey"

8"x8", Magazines & Books, 2024

My idea was to create a piece using a picture of a baby monkey from the Cincinnati Zoo. I got this idea while looking through the pictures from the trip but it evolved as I decided to do a collage for this piece instead of coloring it in with pastels. was inspired by picture I took while on a trip for my birthday and the pictures I found while making the piece.

I started by creating an outline of the picture using the grid method. Then I started to collage the background of the piece by finding gray pictures of stone and metal. I also did the same with the monkey but I used a picture of a mountain lion for the fur. Plus, I used part of the reference image for the face and ear. I then used a book page to create the majority of the branch and used some magazine pieces for the dark spots. Finally, I coated the piece in a layer of Modge Podge to keep it in place.

The meaning is to make an image out of nothing or smaller images. I want the audience to think about how the picture emerges and notice all the smaller pieces that work together. The symbolic part is the branch because it is made using pages from a book and those sheets of paper comes from trees.

The hardest part was placing the collages pieces in the right places. I overcame this struggle by taking my time and evaluation where they would go best. I would have changed the fur on the belly to make it pop more.

The style of this piece is a mix of realism and abstract. It's unique to my own style because I like to try and create new types of art whether it be mixed media or drawing. I love a creativeness of it meaning the mix of images and organization of the piece.

Izzy Heitz, "Finishline"

8"x11", Colored Pencils, 2025

I redid my baseline from the beginning of the year while adding more details and making it more organized. It started out as a collage of things I like draw and evolved into the same things but on a magical bookshelf. I was inspired by my original less than perfect piece.

I started by sketching the bookshelf and the items that would go on top. Then,  I colored the items with a wide array of colors. Lastly, I colored the bookshelves and added some little details as well.

The meaning was to take something old and turn it something new. I want the audience to think about what it on the shelf and how magical they could be. There's not much symbolism in the piece.

The hardest part was to use the right colors. Though I over came this by simply going with what I thought would go best. I would have added a bit more dimension to the shelves to make them more 3D.

This is similar to my own still as I enjoy creating something that can include book and flowers. This piece would be realistic with some surreal qualities. I like the organization of the items on the bookshelves.
