Greenley Grell "Another Warm Day"
6x6, Acrylic Painting , 2026
My idea with this painting was to paint a painting close to my baseline but add more to show that I have become a better painter throughout the semester. It took me a lot of thought of how I can make my previous painting better. So I chose to do the sun flower field, because it was pretty simular to my baseline, but I knew what I could do to make it better. I made the sun flower field on my own and just painted it after an image I had in my head.
I started this painting by painting the top half a solid blue and the bottom half green. Then when the blue was wet I added white to make it look like there are clouds. I then added the sun adding yellow and white. After that I tried to make it look like there was grass in the green so I mixed a lot of diffrent shades of green. Then I put brown dots and made them smaller towards the top of the page. Then I used my paint brush to make petals, and then dots along the horizon.
My intention with this painting is to make my finish line painting better than my baseline but have them be pretty simular to show my progress. I think this artwork means to me how practicing something even every other day makes you better. I want my audience to see how I have improved while also enjoy the painting.
The most difficult part was how I was going to paint all of the paint all of the flowers as they got farther away. I overcame this by creating yellow dots. If I started over I would change the sun flower feild, something just looks off about it. And I'm not really sure what.
The style of this painting is realistic. It makes it unique to me because I did not go off any photo and painted whatever I thought looked good. I love how it shows the progress I've made this semester.
