Greenley Grell “Warm Summer Day”
“8x8”, Acrylic Painting , 2025
I didn't really know what I was going to paint when I did my baseline painting. I had the idea that I wanted to do a blue sky and some type of grass and I went along with that. I got this idea because I enjoy drawing flowers, sun, clouds, ect. I also didn’t have a reference photo so I thought it would be easy to make it up as I go. The inspiration really just came from anywhere.
I created this painting by starting with a blue background, and then adding highlights to the sky. I then used my brush to create the clouds. I tried to get them to look fluffy and light. I then drew grass which I just got a tiny brush and drew lines with all different greens. After that I took the longest strand of grass and added the middle of the flower. After that I used the same method that I used on the grass for the pedals of the flowers.
My intention is to get the idea of a warm summer day when looking at the painting. This artwork is important because it is my starting point in my process with painting. I want my adience to see how simple it is but see all the little details about the grass.
The most difficult part was having no reference picture, so I had to just make it up as I go. I overcame this struggle by just having fun and painting what I thought I should paint. If I started over I would change the painting entirely. I think it is very simple, so I would add more details.
The style of art is realistic. It makes it unique to me because there was no reference photo or place, so it is something I just made up. I love how it is unique to me.
