Forest Neuberg “Elephant raining light.”
6x9, Graphite, 2025
My idea was to make a cartoon elephant spraying water out of its trunk. From thinking of animals and also the cartoons elephants. I used pencils, paper and used the pencil to shade. My intention was a cartoon elephant but also somewhat realistic. I want my audience to think that even in the darkest of grasses that you can be the elephant having fun and spraying water. The details on the trunk and back of head were the hardest. I would change it to make it more cartoonish. I love the grass, the trunk, and the details to the legs.
Forest Neuberg “Damp mountains, bright skies”
12x18, Graphite, 2025
My idea was to have the sun be colored overlooking the dark colorless mountains. I got this idea from looking at my options for drawing styles such as black n white, colored, multimedia, and combo. I knew I wanted to save colored and so I chose to do a combo with the mountains black and the vibrant sky. For the materials I used were graphic pencils, and more graphic materials, normal pencils, and pastel chalk. The meaning of my artwork is that the sun can brighten the world. A struggle of my drawing is the sky on the right, it was hard because the color was a weird color and shades that I didn’t know how to make. I would change the dark part to add more details to the gravel and make the grass darker. I love the sun’s color and the overall sun in the sky.
I have improved on tiny details like the tiny lines on the elephant’s legs. My shading has improved when doing the elephant's legs. I’ve done better with the overall head and eyes. The eyes are more detailed and realistic compared to the cartoon eyes. The overall elephant is more realistic than the baseline. I will work on the head and eyes. My art goal is to create a realistic portrait. The practice of my landscape has improved my blending.
