Ayla riffel “Mr. Tiger”

16x20, Acrylic paint, Canvas , 2021

My idea was to make a tiger that had some realistic aspects but also to have it not look completely realistic at the same time. The first thing I did was my background. I went for an ombre effect at first but realized I liked it better plain black with some of my tiger colors blended in with it. Then I painted my tiger. I had a plan in my mind but I changed that a lot. The tools I used were different paint brushes to get different sizes of stripes on my tiger. I painted a tiger because my favorite color is a neon orange. I want the neon orange bright color to stand out in the painting. The most difficult part for me was redoing the background. I just felt like the first background I did didn't fit well with the tiger and took your eyes off the tiger and towards the background but I didn't want that. This style of artwork was Non-Objective. I ended up loving how the eyes stand out on this tiger, I think the eyes really draw your attention to the tiger’s face.

Ayla Riffel "The Odd Pumpkin"

16x20, acrylic paint, 2021

My Idea was to make a pumpkin, I didn't want to paint a normal pumpkin though. I always liked the odd pumpkins that weren't orange and had bumps. I wanted the pumpkin to be green but I didn't want the background color and the color of the pumpkin to clash because it was both green. I tried to use a sponge to make the pumpkin look like bumps on the pumpkin. The meaning of my artwork was to show off the odd pumpkin's of the patch. When you look at the painting I want you to look at the realism in it. The most difficult part was definitely adding highlights on the pumpkin. If I could change something about it I would use more shades of green. This painting style is realistic. I try to make most of painting’s have a touch of realism, one thing I really like about this painting is the vines in the background.

Ayla Riffel "Mysterious sun"

9x12, acrylic paint, 2021

My idea for this painting was to draw a sun with no reference. My inspiration was for this to look unique and not like a typical sun. I love when you look up in the sky and the sun looks different than it normally does. This was my fifth time re doing this painting. Everytime it was around flowers but I didn't think any of them were my best work and I wouldn't be happy with it if I submitted it so this painting definitely took me the longest. I used many different brush sizes and different shades to get all the little details. The meaning of this artwork was to show a unique sun. When you look at this painting I want the middle of the sun to really stand out. The most difficult part of this painting was starting over so many times. I overcame this struggle by redoing it until I was satisfied. If I could start over I would definitely plan it out better so I wouldn't have had to re-start this so many times, and spend so much time on it. This style of art is supposed to be abstract. Most of my paintings so far had lots of abstract features in them and wanted this one to fit in that too. One thing I really like about this painting would be the shading. I think it adds a lot of detail to the sun and draws your attention.
