Avery Speas "A Fishy Fix-Up"
Construction Paper, 2026
My idea for this stopmotion did not come easy. I was conflicted on whether I should make a stopmotion out of Legos, or clay, or paper. I knew that I needed to come up with an idea before I decide what to make the idea out of. I eventually knew that I wanted to do an underwater story with three clownfish. I then assumed that paper would be the best thing to work with. I then developed a plot of a family of fishes that have their home destroyed by a strong current and now they must rebuild the house. To begin the project, I first made three clownfish that were colored front to back so that when the fish turned direction, it wouldn't look like the fish was upside down. I then made the sea with the fishes' original home. I then started slowly taking pictures of the scene. I made sure to move the fish slowly and in small increments so that the flow was natural. Once the fish exited the frame, I made the current and took shots of it destroying the home. After the current cleared out the home, I took some extra pictures with the fish and then had them exit once again. I then cut up "pebbles" for the new home. Finally, I took pictures of the fish dropping the pebbles and rebuilding the home. I think that the theme of the stopmotion is to not give up when setbacks happen. The fishes' home was ripped apart but they still found a way to solve the issue so that life could go back to normal. It was most difficult to make get the sound effects to blend in with some of the shots so I had to have a lot of patience and I had to change some things so that everything looked perfect. I think that this movie is funny and I really like how the shots flow well together because I adjusted the pieces slightly and I took extra pictures.
