Alex McDanel "Black & White Mountains."
12x9", color pencils on paper, 2023- 2023
The inspiration for this artwork was that I needed an assignment done.
I gridded it first, then drew the picture. After that was done. I outlined it in a sharpie to erase the grid then colored it in order to get advice from the teacher.
The success in my assignment & the improvement in my work.
This is an assignment that I needed to do with no other ideas in mind.
if i could start over I would add better the detail with the sky.

If I could start over I would outline the shadow in the rough giraffe and use a ruler.

Alex McDanel "Black & White. trombone player"
13 5/8x9 3/4",marker on paper 2025-2025
the inspiration was that I needed to have a black and white project and this was a good idea and it was slightly of a complex work so that is why I chose this.
I first use a non grid as a sketch and it turn out alright but then I use a gird for the final and got it pretty accurate but not exact and some things are of by a little.
A success is that the grid isn't showing when the color came on their.
if i could do a redo it would be to make it a combo with a brass background to match the instrument that my brother is playing.

Alex McDanel "Paper gnome"
Paper, Wire, and Cardboard 2025-2025
My inspiration for this art work is that I wanted to give my grandma a christmas present. and that since she really like's gnomes I thought this would be a great present. The reason I chose wires is because every one was using cardboard so saving time I used a different material.
to make the base I used cardboard and a wire to make the base then working the legs up I added paper after paper maché to make a solid base. then when everything is complete you paint it I did the face before finishing the hat in order not to break the paper.
The main problem was that it wasn't stable and that it would fall over and it didn't know how to support is by the waste were it kept leaning over so i increased the size of the front and taped bracers to the legs.
If i could try agian I would secure the legs better and the hip joints. and add some sort of hands.
