Alex McDanel "Ceramic Pitcher."
Ceramic 2025-2025
My inspiration for this artwork was an assignment but the pattern look like a nice choice. The coloring choice was the first time messing with glaze in a while and at the high school level.
The pitcher had to be laid out as a slate then carved into the shape then push it into the pitcher and fuse the ends together. then create a bottom and mold the top then fired it and I work on other projects once fired I painted it with glaze then it was fired again and then finished.
Molding the pitcher like that was a challenge because cracks kept popping up but Mrs.Garrity came and fixed it
This is an assignment that I needed to do with no other ideas in mind. If i could start over I would do a diffrent color and shape with the clay
Alex McDanel "Ceramic Bowls."
Ceramic 2025-2025
My inspiration for this artwork was that it was a assignment, and I wanted to try the different colors after the pitcher. Two bowls made sense for the project and colors with blue being one of my favorite colors so I decided to experiment with those colors.
The clay needed to be laid out then shaped into a bowl with out cracking then fired and glazed with fired again after the couple layers of glazing.
The bowl were hard to design with the curve under the bowl, and molding it together since the bowls kept showing cracks. Then figuring out the color scheme with the two blues that I choose and blending the colors properly.
If I could try again with my current knowledge I would mix and shape the bowls to look better with different color choices for my bowl.
Alex McDanel "Ceramic Pumpkin"
Ceramic 2025-2025
My inspiration for this artwork was that it was a assignment and it was the first tie using coils to make a round object with the entire inside being black so the candle lit nothing inside. I used paint to color the pumpkin.
The clay needed to be squeezed through a mold that created the coils for the pumpkin and then laid out in a spiral for the sphere look. Then the handle will be molded out of what leftover clay with the leaf. Need fired in the kiln for stability and then painted.
The shape was the biggest worry with is being a sphere and it kept turning into a bowl more often then a sphere the teacher fixed it. time was also a big struggle since I had other assignments to work on and getting it finished by a due date. Getting the stem and paint the inside since i couldn't see were the black paint had reach.
if i could try again I would use a darker orange to give the more realistic look. and make sure that the black paint wouldn't be where the orange is.
Alex McDanel "Paper gnome"
Paper, Wire, and Cardboard 2025-2025
My inspiration for this art work is that I wanted to give my grandma a christmas present. and that since she really like's gnomes I thought this would be a great present. The reason I chose wires is because every one was using cardboard so saving time I used a different material.
to make the base I used cardboard and a wire to make the base then working the legs up I added paper after paper maché to make a solid base. then when everything is complete you paint it I did the face before finishing the hat in order not to break the paper.
The main problem was that it wasn't stable and that it would fall over and it didn't know how to support is by the waste were it kept leaning over so i increased the size of the front and taped bracers to the legs.
If i could try agian I would secure the legs better and the hip joints. and add some sort of hands.
