"Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home."
—Anna Quindlen
Hi Everyone!
My name is Mary Cecchinelli. I am so excited to be the Teacher Librarian at Twinfield. I have worked at Twinfield for a very long time and I love this school and community. As you can tell, the library web site is getting a new look. I will continue to build and add resources as the year continues. The biggest change is that I have created resource pages that connect to Elementary, Middle, and the High School. Please visit to see the variety of ways students can request a book, the audiobooks and ebooks that are available, research resources and you can find some book recommendations as well. It is my goal that the resources will be helpful to students, parents, and teachers. Please reach out if you have a question, need a book, or are looking for a specific resource. I will be happy to assist you!

Jason Chin Visits Twinfield
Author and illustrator, Jason Chin, visited Twinfield’s elementary school on March 14th. Chin earned the prestigious Caldecott Medal for his illustrations in the book, Watercress by Andrea Wang. Our students were incredibly engaged as he told stories about swimming in coral reefs, sleeping in the Grand Canyon with scorpions, and blowing bubbles with a sea lion. The students were mesmerized by his personal pictures of gigantic redwood trees, sea turtles swimming, and iguanas found on the Galapagos Island. Chin thoughtfully fielded questions about his life as an illustrator, the writing process, and even his next book. Every student’s question was thoughtful and reflected a sincere curiosity about his life and work. Students ate lunch with Jason and the first grade had thier books signed by the author.

Kekla Magoon Visits Twinfield
Author, Kekla Magoon, visited Twinfield on November 1st. She is an award winning writer of books for children and young adults. She began the day with our high school students, discussing the Civil Rights Movement, highlighting her book, Revolution in Our Time: The Black Panther Party's Promise to the People. In 2021, the book was a finalist for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. She was able to talk about her research and writing process. We learned that writer's block is normal, we can start to write any part of the story we want, and writing one page every day might produce a solid book. Later in the day she worked with a group of Synapse 9 students who read her novel, How it Went Down. The students were anxious to ask the author questions that had been burning since reading the book. Ms. Magoon was eager to hear their thoughts and was more than willing to field any questions students had. It was truly special to see students engaged in such a rich dialogue with the author.
In addition, Ms. Magoon met with the 5th and 6th grade. The students couldn’t contain their excitement as they met Kekla. The students have read or are in the middle of reading a Twinfield favorite, The Season of Styx Malone. They asked incredibly interesting questions, were engaged in meaningful conversations, and were incredible audience members. Kekla’s warmth and storytelling ability had everyone eagerly listening, laughing, and wishing for more time with her.
As a wonderful reminder of this experience, the students were given a copy of one of Kekla’s books and she signed each book. Once again, she interacted warmly with every student who approached her and she left with a huge fan club. It is a true gift to have an author visit our students.

Celebrate the Art of Storytelling with CLiF
On Friday, November 19, Twinfield’s PreK-6 students celebrated the art of storytelling with the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) presenter, Duncan McDougall and Angela Ogle from Plainfield’s, Cutler Memorial Library. Angela reached out to Twinfield to partner with us for two storytelling presentations. In addition, CLiF donated news books to both libraries. We can’t wait to dig into our new titles. I know that Angela hopes that families will stop in and check the books and enjoy the lovely space she has created. We are looking forward to an author visit in the Spring. At that time students will be able to take home a new book. We thank the Children’s Literacy Foundation and Angela Ogle for this wonderful opportunity.
