707 STUDIO IN ART
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 9-12
This course combines 0703 and 0705 into a full year program. This course is the prerequisite for all advanced study in art and must be taken by all art majors. Studio in Art fulfills the Regent's requirements of one (1) credit in art or music between grades 9 and 12.
703 STUDIO IN ART 2D
Level 3 one-half year .5 credit Grades 9-12
This foundation course, though a required first step in the art sequences, is open to any student that has experienced some enjoyment and success in art. This course is geared to meet the needs of all students regardless of ability. Students will receive an introduction to two-dimensional art including drawing and painting, design and graphics. Studio in Art 2D fulfills half of the Regents requirement for one (1) credit in art or music between grades 9-12. This course is not open to those who have completed a full year of Studio in Art.
705 STUDIO IN ART 3D
Level 3 one-half year .5 credit Grades 9-12
This is a foundation course open to any student that has experienced some enjoyment and success in art. This course is geared to meet the needs of all students regardless of ability. Students will receive an introduction to three-dimensional art including the basics of ceramics and sculpture. Studio in Art 3D fulfills half of the Regents requirement of one (1) credit in art or music between grades 9 and12. This course is required for those planning an art sequence. This course is not open to those who have completed a full year of Studio in Art.
709 PEER MENTORING ART
Level 3 one-half year 0.5 credit Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Studio in Art.
This course is designed for both students in the Life Skills program and any student who is interested in learning many different aspects of art. Students will be able to work with different types of art mediums and tools including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Peer mentors should be prepared to work alongside students with disabilities to help develop social skills and interpersonal relationships while broadening their knowledge of art.
710 CERAMICS I
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Studio in Art or Studio in Art 2D and 3D.
Designed for the student who is interested in working clay. Included are the use of the potter's wheel, the creation of ceramic sculpture and pottery, and the application of glazes and under glazes. The history of ceramics and its contemporary uses are explored.
711 CERAMICS II
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Ceramics.
This course is open to 11th and 12th grade students. This course is designed to fully allow students to explore the concepts encompassed in the study of ceramics and to engage in activities with clay and related media on an advanced level. Topics include composition, glaze chemistry and kiln construction.
712 CERAMICS III
Level 2 one year 1.0 credit Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Ceramics 1 & 2.
Individual interests and concepts of ceramics, sculpture and three-dimensional forms will be explored. Students will work on designing clay and glazes for their individualized projects that will be exhibited in the district and/or local galleries.
720 SCULPTURE
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 10-12
This course provides a thorough exploration of three-dimensional forms: modeling, forming, casting, building, carving and construction. Students will use clay, along with other materials, when constructing and finalizing their art work.
724 ADVANCED SCULPTURE
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Sculpture or Ceramics.
Students will explore different types of clay, from porcelain to stoneware and work from an anatomical human form to organic vessels up to 5' in height.
713 DRAWING AND PAINTING
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Studio Art or Studio Art 2D.
This class focuses on building a strong foundation in the drawing and painting process and technique. Various types of dry and wet media are used, including but not limited to: graphite, pen/ink, colored pencil, charcoal, watercolor and acrylic paint. Students are required to complete basic exercises to develop competence with the materials and then encouraged to work individually to develop their own artistic style and voice.
772 COMIC BOOKS AND ILLUSTRATION I
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 9-12
This class is an introduction to writing and drawing comics - however, it is not necessary to write and draw well to make a good or interesting comic. Comics are words and pictures. Students will learn the basics of telling stories with images and basic short story structure. They may choose to write and draw a comic book, comic strip or single-panel comic - webcomics are fine too. Students may work in any genre they choose: action, adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, drama, comedy, horror, western or non-fiction.
773 COMIC BOOKS AND ILLUSTRATION II
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Comic Books and Illustration I.
Students will learn advanced sequential art and illustration techniques and be able to work more independently on their own projects. Throughout the course, students will be expected to create a submission portfolio and/or explore self-publishing in print and on the web.
770 ART PORTFOLIO
Level 3 one year 1.0 credit Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Drawing and Painting. For serious art students.
This class serves as Advanced Drawing & Painting with the aim of creating a portfolio of a students best work by the end of the year. Various types of dry and wet media are used, including but not limited to: graphite, pen/ink, colored pencil, charcoal, watercolor and acrylic paint. Students are given ample studio time to work independently and explore various media and subject matter.
771 ADVANCED ART PORTFOLIO
Level 1 one year 1.0 credit Grade 12
Prerequisite: Art Portfolio.
This class is for the highly motivated art student. Students must have taken art portfolio previously. If Art Portfolio and AP Art Portfolio are to be taken concurrently, permission of the instructor must be obtained. With the input of the teacher, students are concentrating mainly on self-directed work with the goal of completing and refining a college-level portfolio.
