Emily shared one of her AWESOME tools that she uses to support students in making great choices and learning supportive SEL skills. She shares two of her binder systems that have helped several teachers already :)
Here are the document resources to create your own.
Thank you, Emily!
Purpose: Some of the teachers and teams at Byrd have been exploring Desk Pets! This strategy is great for teaching responsibility, responsible decision-making, positive behavior choices, and more!
Carolyn Duffy and her team shared these helpful resources:

Desk Pet Reward System:
I use Pet Desk Dollars to reward students randomly for good behavior, helping others, holding doors, participating in class and using kind words etc. They love earning money!!! Homework is also incorporated into the system as for every ten punches on their homework card for nightly homework completion, they earn food items for their pets. The adoption center is only open on Fridays! When students visit the adoption center, they choose a pet to adopt and must fill out an application (as shown in the pictures). Then once they turn in their adoption paperwork, they become a proud owner of that pet. We also use a quarantine hotel for pets that misbehave (students playing with them when they are not supposed to). The rules for that are also listed on the attachment.
Purpose: Ready Rosie a way to engage your families at home and is available for our early learning through 3rd grade teachers. Videos get sent home with parenting strategies for academics and SEL. You can also customize what videos get sent.
Purpose: To share strategies to support students in becoming regulated and ready to learn.
This is a powerful tool for any classroom.
Purpose: It is essential to have a strong home and school connection, keeping a family contact log can help you see patterns of contact. Which families do you contact often? Which have not received as much contact? What kind of contact patterns do you see--celebrations? Parent Education resources? Unexpected behavior support? Other?
Add this to your Family Engagement Section of your Classroom Climate & Management Planning Guide
Purpose: Embed high engagement and high impact cooperative learning strategies like the Kagan Structures. This resource was shared by Margaret Hulligan, instructional coach at Rupley.
Purpose: Following multi-step directions can be tricky for students--at any grade. If you are noticing that this is an area students need more support (especially in K-2), try this strategy.
Purpose: Looking for ideas and supports for how to respond to student behavior, as well as put into place proactive supports? Check out this week's SEL Tip of the Week.
Purpose: With the Chromebooks going home and testing starting, students need to bring back their Chromebooks charged--here is a class chant to help students remember.
Purpose: Preview the essential SEL lessons to teach your students the first weeks of school. These are found in the Classroom Climate & Management Section
Purpose: Tool for supporting student behavior, especially through the end of the school year with the big transition.
Purple Text = hybrid/remote considerations
Purpose: Preparing students for a relaxed state testing experience revolving around their social and emotional needs.

BONUS TIPS:
Take it slow and share with students any of the SEL highlighted skills and strategies. Have them practice with you for feedback.
Create anchor charts of the skills (which are also good for supporting students through transitions AND testing).
Purpose: Add another layer to your class for motivation and specific feedback. Especially for our younger learners for an extra "boost" and excitement.
BONUS TIPS:
Think about how often your students should fill the jar
Review your classroom consequences chart and add/change any consequences (consider reviewing as a class as well to get their input). Keep it simple and small, meaningful, and purposeful.
***This is focused on *Positive* choices, once marbles are earned, they stay (do not remove marbles from the jar) the negative consequence is that students would not earn another marble.
Have a plan in place to "scaffold" back so that we can continue working towards internal motivation.
Tracey Villegas' marble consequence options example.
Purpose: Feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work/posts/comments that are across platforms each day and needing to provide student feedback?
BONUS TIPS:
This routine can stay for a day, a week, etc., you choose
You can create a particular routine for specific subject areas or platform
Add "Student Self-Reflection" as an option
Tip: Focus on building strong relationship with students to get them connected to the classroom with an adult.
Reflect: Think about if there is a student who seems disconnected, do they have a strong relationship within your classroom?
Tip: Add movement as often as possible, there are so many possibilities! This increases engagement and participation.
Reflect: Think about your day and notice how often your students are moving.
Tip: Reteach SEL Voice Levels lesson and include a new level called "Presentation Voice With A Mask"
Extra Tip: Let students repeat themselves louder instead of you repeating what they said--we want their voices to be empowered and not removed. It is a skill set to develop.
