Try these tricks: Look around and name five things you can SEE. It can be five colors, five pieces of furniture, or five random things! Now find four things you can FEEL: a fan blowing, a soft pillow maybe? Then listen for 3 things you can HEAR. The TV, water running, or the birds chirping outside. Next - can you SMELL two different things? A candle or some cookies baking? Finally, what is one thing you can TASTE? Gum? A snack?
By using all five of your senses, it creates a calming response in your body and helps you focus on the here and now. Try it sometime!
