about me

Overview

Although this speech will be short, you should plan and organize it carefully. Even though this speech will be about you, there are still some choices to make. You must decide which elements of your life you will be sharing. As you flip through your life and times, think about areas of your life the audience might find interesting. And, since this is the first "formal" speech for class, spend some time thinking about HOW you plan to inform the class about yourself.

Requirements

  • Time: 2:00 minutes (minimum)

  • Speaker’s Notes: You may use your outline or other notes. I suggest using index cards.

  • Source(s): This speech uses information about YOU, no further research is required.

  • Visuals: Visuals may not be used.

Preparing and Organizing:

You can use the following questions to help guide you for the basis of your presentation. You can also substitute other questions as well:

  • What is your full name? (name connections/story)

  • Where did you grow up or spend your childhood?

  • Heritage? Cultural, religious, etc.

  • What can you tell about your hometown or neighborhood?

  • How do you spend your spare time?

  • What is your favorite sport or hobby?

  • Who is your favorite actor / athlete / sports team?

  • What type of music do you listen to? Why?

  • What are you afraid of? (I've learned to make my peace with small spiders.)

  • Is college in your future? Straight to work? What future do you see for yourself?

  • What type of jobs do your parents (brothers, sisters, aunts, etc.) have? Do you have a sense of a career yet?

  • Other topics: video games, art, community service, cooking, hiking, fixing cars, etc.
