Health Science

Health Science Education is an introductory course designed to prepare students to pursue careers in the fields of biotechnology research, therapeutics, health informatics, diagnostic, and support services. Upon completion of this course a proficient student will be able to identify careers in these fields, compare and contrast the features of healthcare systems, explain the legal and ethical ramifications of the healthcare setting, and begin to preform foundational healthcare skills. This course will serve as a strong foundation fro all of the Health Science programs of study.

Ø The student will have a minimum of 10 major tests. Quizzes will be used to divide sections of larger units.

Ø Medical terminology and abbreviations will be tested weekly

Ø One formal paper

Ø Students will read one book related to health care and write report

Ø Four current event projects

Ø Career project

Ø There will be a mid term and a final given.

Ø Numerous smaller projects will be assigned through out the class.

Complete Rural Health Workplace Readiness

Class work/ homework will be 40% Tests/quizzes/ projects 40% Midterm/ final 20%

Supplies: paper and notebook for notes/ black pen/ poster board/ three prong folder

Class and daily work is to be turned in on the day it is assigned in class or it is a 0 unless otherwise stated.

Missed work due to absences is the responsibility of the student to schedule and complete with in 5 days of return to class. Tests must be scheduled by the students with the instructor. Please be aware that late work will not be accepted at the end of a term or semester.

As a student of a Health Science Education class the students are eligible to join Health Occupation Students of America. (CCHS HOSA)

Multi-media is used in class including but not limited to the internet, TV programming and movies. All movies and programs have been viewed prior to use in the class room. “Outbreak”, “Tuesdays with Morris” and “John Q” are some of the movies we may watch.
