Students joining the Eslite Bookstore visit were instructed to choose one book to be added to the School Library collection. The funding provided by the Promotion of Reading Grant was utilized to purchase the books chosen by our students. It is no wonder that students would feel more engaged in reading the books chosen by themselves, and the books cater for their interests and needs. The books are for leisure reading for S1 students while those chosen by S4 students are for their English Language SBA.Â

In a bid to enhance students’ reading interests and motivation, the School Library arranged a visit to Eslite Bookstore in Causeway Bay during the post-examination period on 3rd February 2023, getting S1 students involved in the selection of library books. Students browsed through the shelves, had a poke around, read the titles, stroked the covers, and searched for something that caught their fancy. No wonder the experience of visiting a bookstore, surrounding themselves with shelves of books and browsing new titles they had never heard of was a long-awaited and mind-boggling experience to our S1 formers.Â

A visit to Eslite Bookstore in Causeway Bay was scheduled on 22nd January 2024 during the post-examination period to allow our S1 students to immerse themselves in the world of books. When walking down the aisles in the bookstore, they were able to browse books of all genres and discover new titles that could have a huge impact on their emotions, thoughts, and, potentially, even their outlook on life. All appreciated such an opportunity to escape into a different world with imagination evoked and brand-new interests stimulated, if only for a brief period, after the stressful examinations.

The recent visit to Eslite Bookstore on 22nd January 2025 aimed at promoting reading was a resounding success, showcasing the power of engagement and the joy of literature. The bookstore offered a tactile experience where students could physically handle books, browse selections, and engage with the material in a way that digital formats do not provide. Students were exposed to a variety of genres and authors, which helped them discover new interests and ignite a passion for reading. Moreover, the group visit fostered camaraderie among students, strengthening friendships and creating shared experiences around literature.Â
